Angela Talic

Prior to her appointment to the CIRB, Angela built a career as a longshore worker in the Port of Vancouver, beginning in 1997. A passionate advocate for women in the waterfront industry, she has worked to foster safer, more inclusive workplaces.

From 2012 to 2014, she served as Vice-President at Large of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Canada, collaborating with employers to shift workplace culture by recognizing the contributions of women to the industry. She played a fundamental role in the establishment of a human rights committee within her union local. Following a short break from union politics, in 2019, she agreed to represent ILWU Canada in a tripartite alliance between the union, the BCMEA, and the federal government aimed at ensuring the industry’s compliance with the Work Place Harassment and Violence Prevention Regulations.

Beyond her union leadership, Angela actively championed gender equity through her work on the BC Federation of Labour’s Women’s Rights Standing Committee and Human Rights Standing Committee. Committed to advancing workers’ rights through both advocacy and legal expertise, Angela earned her law degree from the Peter A. Allard School of Law at UBC in 2021. Called to the bar in 2022, she continued to practice labour law part-time while serving as a longshore trainer, helping to shape a more inclusive industry for the next generation of waterfront workers.

In January 2024, she was appointed by the Federal Minister of Labour to serve a 3-year term as an employee representative on the CIRB. Outside of work, she dedicates her time to volunteering on the board of directors for Build A Dream, a non-profit organization that empowers young girls and women to strive for excellence in non-traditional careers, and serves as a leader with the Girl Guides of Canada.

Emily Hannenberg

Emily Hannenberg is a leadership coach and facilitator. Throughout a decade of experience in the United States Army as an Engineer officer, Emily led soldiers at increasing levels of responsibility, in and out of combat, while coaching and empowering her diverse teams to solve complex problems. In her final duty assignment, she developed leadership programs for staff, faculty, and students at MIT, Harvard, Tufts, and Wellesley College. Following her military career, Emily was the Head of Strategy for The Leadership Consortium (TLC), where she helped to design and deliver high impact, inclusive programming and coaching for leaders at best-in-class organizations (e.g. Google, IBM, HubSpot).

As a coach and facilitator, Emily’s approach is one grounded in human connection, using curiosity and intention to help leaders tap into their full potential and cultivate meaningful change. She is committed to empowering individuals to thrive, both at work and in life, and brings that energy to every session she leads.

Emily is a Certified Integral Coach and is graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and Harvard Business School.

Outside of work, Emily is an avid surfer and woodworker, and lives with her wife Rachel and their dog Marley near San Diego, CA.

Megan Owen-Evans

Megan Owen-Evans is the President of Neptune Terminals, a world-class bulk handling facility in North Vancouver, BC. With over 25 years of experience in the waterfront industry, she began her career in 1997 as a labourer at Cascadia Grain Terminal and advanced into leadership roles, including President of Fibreco in 2020 before joining Neptune Terminals in 2023.

Having built her career in a historically male-dominated industry, Megan is a passionate advocate for DEI, actively supporting other women and fostering inclusive, equitable workplaces that harness the power of diverse perspectives to drive innovation and progress.

Megan is deeply involved in DEI initiatives, serving as Co-Chair of the Waterfront DEI Council and as a Director on the BC Marine Terminal Operators Association (BCMTOA) and the BC Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) Boards. Megan is a double anonymous living donor and a strong advocate for social impact, serving as an Executive on the Kidney Foundation (BC & Yukon Branch) Board and Co-Chair of the Living Donor Circle of Excellence. She was recently awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal for her contributions to society.
